Fortunately, there have been no reports of property loss overnight, NSW RFS Operational Officer of the Southern Tablelands Zone, Lachlan Gilchrist, said.
The main fire activity was in Mares Forest and the fire didn't reach the main population areas of Taralga or Bannaby.
The NSW Rural Fire Service had predicted spread under the southerly change that passed over the fire ground late on Friday night and in the early hours of Saturday morning.
Ken Fleming, who lives near the turn off to Wombeyan Caves Road, said he could see the fire flaring up on Friday afternoon.
The fire had settled on Saturday morning, thanks to showers and fog, Taralga Rural Fire Brigade Captain John Sullivan said.
"Additional resources are being sent in today to implement more containment strategies," Mr Gilchrist said.
There is a degree for optimism today thanks to the weather, Mr Gilchrist said.
The Green Wattle Creek fire has now burnt 275,000 hectares. Seven dwellings and one shed were lost in the Tallygang Mountain Road area near Wombeyan Caves last weekend.
