Finally the smoke has lifted allowing the first race for 2020 to be held at Wakefield Park for the inaugural fixed wheel criterium for track bikes and graded criteriums for the road bikes.

A small field of enthusiastic track riders turned out for the fixed wheel criterium. Michael Beard, Phil Champion and Josh Daniel moved out to an early lead but this soon whittled down to two riders as Josh started to fatigue.
Chris Berry chased hard but was unable to bridge the gap. Michael and Phil battled it out for the lead but on the bell lap Michael proved too strong taking out the win from Phil Champion second and Josh Daniel third.
Fresh from competing at the Australian Road Championships in Ballarat Jacob Emmerton was too strong in A Grade for the battling Jason McLaughlin with Michal Beard, backing up after the fixed wheel cirt, third.
In B Grade Jason Cook continues his form from last year by taking out first place with young Cameron Atkinson second and Isaac Hogan third.
Racing in C Grade was a tight affair with four riders swapping off turns and opening up a break on the field. Nothing separated the leaders at the bell lap as Mark Stutchbury, Nadine Moroney, Chris Berry and Phil Champion jockeyed for positon into the back straight.
A final acceleration into the chicane and a sprint out of the final turn and Chris Berry showing no signs of fatigue from the earlier race outlasted Nadine Moroney and Mark Stutchbury.
In D Grade Wayne Skillman opened his 2020 account with a win over Jimmy Spiers.
Next week racing is at Breadalbane for the Acciona Gunning Wind Farm Graded Scratch races. Sign on at the church by 6pm with racing at 6.30pm. New riders and visitors welcome.
