In 2018, at the age of 14, Michael took out the Cowra Club Championships, Sydney Club championship, was second in Canberra's Championship, and 'most improved' at the NSW Championships.
In 2019, his trajectory only continued to rise.
Michael began the year with a change from his Yamaha bike to a 2019 Husqvarna FC250.
"It was a great decision as the bike was a massive improvement and would help me build on my results," Michael said in an email to the Post.
His results reflect the improvement both in his bike and his skill over the year.
Michael placed first in the Sydney and Junior Cowra Championships (making him the Cowra Junior Club Champion for the second year in a row), second in the South Australian State Titles and the Canberra Championship, fourth in the Victorian and New South Wales State Titles, and sixth in the Australian Championships.
Though his results were stellar last year, Michael's drive for success has not stopped, and he set his sights even higher for 2020.
"It has been a big year, but hopefully next year will be even better," he said.
"We will improve work hard to better last year's results and keep getting faster."
The West family will start this year with a trip to Victoria for the Albury summer series, before travelling back up to Queensland in April for the Australian Junior Dirt Track Titles.
If the last couple of years are any indication, Michael's opponents would do well to watch out for the talented Goulburn youngster.
Michael also took the time to thank his sponsors, without whom he would not have been able to achieve such spectacular results.
"Their services, skills, products and experience help me to get the best out of my bike and myself race after race," he said.
