When Citizen Street resident Rodrigo Andres Martin-Silva woke up on Thursday morning, he saw contractors working on the road near his house which has the 1850s built cobblestone.

While talking to the contractors, he was shocked to learn that their instructions while undertaking the roadwork were to go 'right to the edge'.
"I called up Goulburn Mulwaree Council at around 10am and raised an alarm over the asphalting over cobblestones on the street," Mr Martin-Silva said.
"At 10:28am, I wrote an email to the council expressing my concerns. Failing to get a response by midday, I shared my concerns in a post on social media.
"I received a response from the council at 4:56pm stating that the council has no intention of covering the cobblestones.
"Today morning, they came to dig up and the cobblestones have now been exposed."
Mr Martin-Silva feels that these cobblestones are an important part of the city.
"Not only are these cobblestones important from the heritage point of view, but they are also a wonderful aesthetic reminder of what our city used to be like," he said.
"Usually, when maintained, they look beautiful. I ensure that I regularly keep the section of the road in front of my house clean to expose the cobblestone. I also weed them regularly."
Meanwhile, Goulburn Mulwaree Council has said that there has never been any intention to do an asphalt work over the cobblestones on Citizen Street.
"Roadworks there are focused on the road itself and shoulders and there were no plans to undertake any work over the cobblestones. We encourage residents with concerns to contact us directly on 4823 4444," Jackson Reardon, council spokesperson, said.
