The Men's National Championship Qualification was shot on February 28.
Conditions were light but fickle, and some good scores resulted. The top eight shooters progressed to the final, which was won by Wright, only 1.5 ahead of local lad, Martin Hunt.
Wright placed fifth in the first graded match on February 23. The heat really kicked in, after a slightly chilly start with strong breezes, and building mirage picked up as the day wore on, resulting in many of the shooters coming off the mound looking totally wrung out.
After he placed second in the second part of the graded match shot on the February 25, Wright took out third place overall.
Tokoroa was very hot for the duration of the tournament, with swirling breezes and lots of sun and heat, all of which underlined the joys of outdoor shooting.
While the conditions may not have looked difficult, there were a lot of quick decisions to be made to get the match finished in time, and some found it a challenge. No doubt every squad thought the others had it easier than they did.
David also placed third in the badge match on day one of the 2020 Outdoor Nationals on February 23, where the squads had to deal with some strong breezes.
The new bright orange flags were a challenge for some, with the swivels making them spin merrily in the sunshine.
The extreme heat early in the competition was followed by a torrential downpour. The Goulburn club congratulated the target-markers who manned the hair driers so the targets could be marked.
