In an announcement to the Australian Stock Exchange (ASX) this morning Mosaic Brands LTD announced they would temporarily close all 1386 stores nationwide from Thursday, March 26.
They said the personal service offered at the company's stores conflicted with the government's social distancing recommendations for COVID-19.
The 6,800 "predominantly female team" will be stood down.
The company said "the health and well being of the group's customers, team and broader community were paramount."
"All team members affected by store closures will be stood down with access to leave entitlements.
"The group will continue to communicate regularly with the team and will offer other forms of support through this difficult time and period of uncertainty, including access to its Employee Assistance Program."
The company's nine retail brands had recently seen a drop in store traffic and revenue as a direct result of COVID-19 and social distancing measures.
Mosaic Brands had seen a 10.9 per cent drop in revenue so far this year compared to 2019.
This decrease continues after the bushfire crisis in November and December directly affected 20 per cent of Mosaic stores across the country.
Online operations will continue.
Mosaic Brands was contacted for comment.
