The 25-3 Kubota model machine was stolen from a work site at Aston Martin Drive, Marys Mount between 4.30pm Friday and 8am Saturday, police said.
They believe the offender/s accessed the work site, in a new housing estate, by removing a padlock and chain.
Due to its size and the fact it had been disabled by its owner, police suspect the machine would need to be towed.
The excavator is valued at more than $40,000.
Police are appealing for anyone with information or who may have seen anything suspicious on Friday night or Saturday morning to contact Goulburn Police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
Caught twice in one day
Meantime, police said they were conducting speed enforcement on the Hume Highway, Marulan at 1.40pm on April 3 when a silver Audi sedan was checked at 140km/h in the 110km/h posted speed limit area. They intercepted the vehicle and spoke with the driver.
The 47-year-old from Oxley, ACT, underwent a road side breath test which returned a positive result. He was then arrested and back at Goulburn Police Station allegedly returned a 0.206 breath anlaysis result.
The man was issued a court attendance notice for 'High Range Drink Driving' to appear at the Goulburn Local Court on June 24, 2020, and received an infringement for the speeding offence. His driver's licence was also suspended pending the court appearance..
About 5:45pm the same day, police said they observed the same vehicle travelling east on Illawarra Highway, Moss Vale.
Officers stopped the vehicle near the intersection of Nowra Road and spoke with the same driver from the earlier offence. Inquiries revealed that his driver's licence was suspended from the previous offence.
The man was again taken back to Goulburn Police Station, and underwent a breath analysis, where he returned a reading of 0.240. As a result his car keys were confiscated until a responsible person could come and collect the driver.
The accused was charged with the offences of 'Drive with high range PCA - 2nd offence' and 'Drive on road while visiting driver privileges withdrawn' and given bail not to occupy the driver seat of a motor vehicle in the state of NSW.
The man will appear at the same court, on the same date, for the same offence.
