Goulburn Speedway Club race secretary, Tony Kranitis, has made his feelings about this weekend's return to the track crystal clear.
After more than three months without a race meet due to the COVID-19 lockdowns, the club is scheduled to host roughly 70 cars on Saturday.
Drivers with cars in all divisions will attend, but Kranitis clarified that the meeting was not official.
"It'll be a race meeting without any prizes," he said. "The guys and girls will just have some fun to get the cobwebs out of their cars.
"It'll be a good fun day, I know some of them just want to test their cars."
No spectators will be allowed to attend the meeting, which will be held between 10am and 3pm.
To encourage social distancing between the crews for each car, the club will also make use of both the old and new pit areas on the track, the former of which was scheduled to be turned into another spectator area before the lockdown.
Similar renovations had been taking place at the track for several months in late 2019 and early 2020, but the club has been forced to postpone them due to the lack of income during the shutdown.
"We're holding our own," Kranitis said of the club's financial standing.
"The club owns the land, so we don't have a problem paying rent. We were doing a lot of improvements out there, which has been brought to a standstill.
"The bills still have to be paid, you've got vehicles to be registered. You've still got a bit of maintenance to do as well."
The support and interest shown by a large number of drivers in attending Saturday's meet, Kranitis said, will "help a lot".
As the club's official season does not extend into winter, the meet will be a one-off, before the beginning of the 2020-21 season which Kranitis hopes will take place as scheduled from October.
"Usually this time of year, being the end of the season, guys pull their cars down and rebuild engines," Kranitis said.
"But because of coronavirus we'd had no meetings for a while and the response was keen.
"We don't actually fire up again until October, so things will hopefully be better by then."
The Goulburn Speedway will host its return meet on Saturday, June 27 from 10am to 3pm.
Further details about the upcoming season will be posted on the speedway's website as details are confirmed.
