Youth Appeal
It was exciting to read in Monday's edition (welcome back, Goulburn Post) that Goulburn will host next year's youth conference. Such "an inspiring and educational forum" is just as beneficial to the local economy as any sports event or music festival.

Councillor Margaret O'Neill's reluctance to make a substantial ratepayer contribution towards the occasion is as disappointing as it is short-sighted - especially in view of the findings within the accompanying Town and Country Magazine that indicated "Millennials abandon city life".
This conference should be seen for the opportunity it is - the chance to appeal to, and attract, young people to the area. If the trend is for young couples and families to move to the regions, maybe we should make this worthwhile investment now in order to reap the economic benefits in the not too distant future.

For Eden Monaro residents
When you vote please think of me. I live in rural NSW, near Tathra. I've been through so much fire and smoke over the last two and a half years I will never feel safe in my home again. I've seen my friends lose everything - their homes, businesses, family photos... I've seen familiar landscapes scorched, unrecognisable, changed forever. I've seen the despair and exhaustion of neighbours trying to rebuild while facing even worse fires.
And I'm one of the lucky ones who hasn't lost my home. Yet.
This Saturday, you get to make a decision about my future. About your future and the future of our grandkids. Please, please, vote for someone who believes in the expert advice around bushfires and climate. Don't risk a climate denier, or support the Prime Minister who went to Hawaii while we were choking in the flames.
Before the fire comes to your doorstep, before it returns to mine. Vote as if our lives depend on it, because they do.

Second exit for Run-O-Waters
A second exit for Run-O-Waters can be easily achieved by connecting the old Hume Highway (Old South Roadd) with Loloma Place. It would also benefit Yarra residents with access to Goulburn without going onto the busy Hume Highway.

A big thank you
To all health workers, supermarkets, churches, and the general workforce of Goulburn I say a big thank you. So many have done and are doing everything they can to keep all safe from this COVID-19.

Climate alarmism
Climate alarmists never learn (re letter from Bob Philipson, June 29). The coronavirus pandemic and others which will surely follow are far more dangerous than climate change ever has or ever will be. It is badly educated teachers indoctrinating children like Greta Thunberg, aided and abetted by people who should know better such as the United Nations Secretary General, Antonio Guterres who are continuing to spread misinformation world-wide.
Over 200 eminent scientists signed a submission recently claiming that there is no climate emergency and Michael Shellenberger an energy expert, who has testified before the US Congress and is a reviewer on the next IPCC assessment report, has now apologised for his previous alarmist predictions. In his new well researched book "Apocalypse Never: Why Environmental Alarmism Hurts Us All" he states that humans are not causing a "sixth mass extinction", climate change is not making natural disasters worse and that fires have declined 25 per cent around the world since 2003. The excessive wood fuel and houses near forests, not climate change explains the increasingly dangerous fires in California and Australia. Carbon emissions have been declining in most rich nations since the mid-1970s, wood fuel is far worse for people and wild life than fossil fuels and 100% renewable energy would require increasing land use from the present 0.5 per cent to 50 per cent.
Climate alarmism should be debunked but it is doubtful that climate alarmists will read Michael Schellenberger's book. They seem transfixed in their bias and more intent on shouting down any reasonable alternative view.
