As far as Goulburn's North Park is concerned, the journey of $7.2 million in upgrades began with a $15,000 grant from the state government.
Announced by member for Goulburn Wendy Tuckerman's office in June, the Goulburn Stockmen were awarded $15,000 to assist in the construction of a storage shed at the club's home ground.
This shed, club secretary Bec Harmer said, was the first step towards the proposed redevelopment of North Park, a massive $7.2 million project currently under development by Goulburn Mulwaree Council and a working party.
"It's a small part of the big plan, but it's much needed storage space because we've got so much gear," Harmer said.
"There's an existing smaller storage room there, and a very old garage in the corner of the park. We use those spaces now to store equipment, but there's a lot of things we don't have space to house."
The grant from the state government will cover half the amount needed to build the shed, with the club prepared to put forward the other half.
Construction is set to begin in the near future, as soon as the club has finished liaising with council regarding the reconfiguration of the fields.
"We're in the process of reconfiguring the fields to incorporate two international fields, so once they're finalised we're going to put the shed up," Harmer said.
"We didn't want to do it just yet in case we needed the space ... It'll happen within the next month or two."
The grant was awarded to the Stockmen as part of a broader $4.6 million initiative by the state government to boost grassroots sports in NSW.
"There has been significant uncertainty for sport in NSW, particularly in regional areas," Mrs Tuckerman said.
"We love our sport and this money will be a massive boost for regional sporting organisations, which not only help our communities stay active and healthy but also perform a vital role keeping people connected.
"These grants will provide essential funds to help our organisations increase participation."
The junior rugby league season in Goulburn is set to get underway on Friday, July 18, for a nine-week competition.
