The crane was named by Alex, aged 6, from Wollondilly Public School. Alex was the winner of the Goulburn Hospital and Health Service Redevelopment 'Name the Crane' competition. Alex won $1000 of sporting equipment or books for Wollondilly Public School.
In addition to the great name, Alex provided the following reason for suggesting Cranium:
"The crane is building stuff to protect people. Just like a cranium does it protects people's brains," he said.
The 40 metre tower crane will be officially named as part of a ceremony on the redevelopment site in the coming month. Additional prizes will also be awarded for the best coloured entry, extra effort and second and third place. All prizes courtesy of Hansen Yuncken.
The Name the Crane competition was open to primary schools and children of primary school age or capability in the Goulburn-Mulwaree and Upper Lachlan Shire areas including those in the Paediatric Ward at Goulburn Base Hospital.
The $150 million Goulburn Hospital and Health Service Redevelopment is part of an investment in health facilities across the district by the state government. The government has allocated $8 million for the redevelopment of Yass Hospital. The new Braidwood Multipurpose Service, currently under construction, is part of the $304 million Multipurpose Service Program.
