Not every child gets to have their dream come true but Alex Rigney sure did. The clever boy named a 40 metre high crane that towers over the Goulburn skyline.
Alex is the winner of the Goulburn Hospital and Health Service Redevelopment 'Name the Crane' competition.
Six-year-old Alex came up with the idea for the name during lock down.
Mother Julie Rigney said her children were thinking about what name they would choose and Alex called out the word 'cranium'.
"I asked him why he chose that name and he said 'it sounds like crane', I told him what a cranium was and he said 'so the crane is building stuff to protect people, like a cranium protects people's brains'", Mrs Rigney said.
"He was convinced that this was definitely going to be the winning name."
Alex worked on his colouring competition entry over two whole days.
Mrs Rigney said he had watched her email the entry and took great care of the original copy.
"He proceeded to ask every day if I had heard anything until he received the phone call he had been waiting for: he had won," she said.
The proud mum said Alex had literally jumped for joy and fist pumped the air when he found out.
Alex said he was "really excited to see Cranium up close and see all the builders" at an upcoming ceremony.
Alex won $1000 for Wollondilly Public School.
The bright young man looked forward to school returning next term to tell his teacher and class mates all about his experience.
"I can't wait to tell Ms Maher and all of my friends, they're going to be so excited," he said.
