Following the construction of the new Ken Robson pavilion and the installation of improved lighting, Member for Goulburn Wendy Tuckerman announced the latest aspect of the ground set to be upgraded: the grandstand.
Mrs Tuckerman's office announced on Thursday that a $109,529 grant had been awarded to the Goulburn Mulwaree Council to assist with refurbishments to the current structure.
Goulburn District Cricket Association president, Tim Price, said an improved grandstand would greatly benefit prospective tournaments the GDCC hopes to host in the future.
"From a cricket perspective, with the improvements that have already been made, it just adds that third dimension where the previous facilities have given us the opportunity to host bigger events," Price said.
"The planned upgrades will bring an extra dimension of comfort, it's probably past its use-by date. That's not to be critical, I think council's done an unbelievable job. It'll be awesome to see it get the upgrade.
"My thanks go to the council and to our local member, Wendy Tuckerman, for their continued support and upgrade of the facilities."
Council plans include replacement of the existing cladding, roofing and seating, with improvements to the side railings, plus painting the existing steel framework.
Mayor Bob Kirk was pleased by the contribution and said it will round out the improvements to Seiffert Oval.
"The grandstand upgrade will complete the Seiffert Oval precinct - following completion of the new pavilion and upgraded lighting," Cr Kirk said.
"Council has now gone out for quotations for design and construction, with the intention being that the grandstand reflect the adjacent Seiffert Oval Pavilion.
"I'm certainly looking forward to seeing some plans in the near future which we will be able to share with the community."
The grant was part of a package of $4 million which has been awarded to 32 projects which span sport and recreation, arts and culture, disaster readiness and essential community infrastructure - all as part of the NSW government's Infrastructure Grants program.
"This is a wonderful project that will involve an extensive makeover for the aged grandstand at Seiffert Oval," Mrs Tuckerman said.
"I'm really pleased the NSW government will complement council's significant investment to date towards transforming the oval precinct into a modern sporting complex."
