Six Canberra district and three Southern Highland wineries have found a place among the top wineries in the country.
Several wineries from the region have made it to the list of Real Review Top Wineries of Australia 2020.
Clonakilla was placed fourth on the list, Mount Majura Vineyard at 76, Helm at 171, Lark Hill at 232, and Collector Wines at 380.
In Southern Highlands, Tertini Wines was ranked 154, Cherry Tree Hill Wines was placed at 263 and PepperGreen Estate at 327.
In Eden Valley, several wineries made it to the list including Henschke at 12, Poonawatta at 24, Pewsey Vale at 102, Flaxman Wines at 113, Max & Me at 238, Brothers At Wat at 272, Kyara Wines at 297, Hutton Vale Farm at 320 and Eden Hall at 396.
The review came after winemakers felt the devastating impact of bushfires on their produce.
The smoke taint ruined their crop which forced several winemakers to take the difficult decision of not making any vintage for the year.
When grapes are exposed to smoke in the late stages of the growing season, it can produce undesirable flavours in the wine.
Clonakilla had issued a statement that revealed the "painful decision" regarding not making wine from any vineyard in New South Wales in 2020.
"The severe drought and unprecedented bush fire emergency have made 2020 the toughest year in living memory for the Australian wine industry and for Australian farming in general," the statement read.
"For Clonakilla, the issue is smoke taint. It affects one vintage only. Winemaking will resume as normal in 2021. Our hearts go out to growers in wine regions around the country who have suffered more devastating effects from the direct impact of a bush fire, notably in the Adelaide Hills and Tumbarumba."
In February 2019, the NSW government had given winegrowers across the state up to $1200 for smoke test kits to assess bushfire smoke damage to their crops.
