The organisers of Goulburn Eisteddfod have decided to cancel the event for this year.
Goulburn Eisteddfod committee member Lyn Lace said that the decision has been taken due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
"In term 2, schools were closed. So, there was no opportunity for the teachers to prepare the students for various competitions," she said.
"Also, we are unable to actually stage the event while maintaining the required social distancing restrictions etc.
"We are hoping to be back next year if the COVID-19 issues have resolved by then."
The annual event is run by The Goulburn Eisteddfod Society Inc, which is a non-profit organisation.
Students from different schools in the city compete in several competitions including speech and drama, choral competition and public speaking.
The events are held at venues including Goulburn Workers Club and Lieder Theatre.

Goulburn Eisteddfod is one more event that has been added to the list of events that have been cancelled due to the pandemic this year.
Goulburn and District Art Society recently decided to cancel the 2020 annual art prize due to COVID-19 as well.
President of the society, Helen De Jonge, feels that things are uncertain at this point due to the pandemic.
"Unfortunately, we have made the decision to cancel the event this year. We will hopefully have a bigger and better event next year," she said.
