The biggest rainfall totals have been in the south-eastern corner of NSW, including the Goulburn region.
A total of 144.5mm of rainfall was received in the Goulburn Mulwaree between Thursday, August 6 and noon today.
Alex Majchrowski, meteorologist, Bureau of Meteorology, said that Goulburn airport has received 130.2mm of rain this month so far.
"Last year, it received only 59.2 mm of rain for the month of August. It's already wetter this month than it was for the months of July and August last year together," he said.
Matthew Lieschke, senior agriculture advisor - livestock at South East Local Land Services feels that timing of the rain is the real key.
"We have been really fortunate with the timing of rain events this year. The rainfall over the weekend has once again arrived at a really good time," he said.
"It was good soaking rain and the moisture probes throughout the region are showing saturated conditions down to at least 60cm.
"Sensors at 80 and 100cm below the soil surface are also showing a big increase in moisture content, which is great to see."
Mr Lieschke also pointed out that the weather outlook is looking "very positive" with the Bureau of Meteorology indicating wetter than average conditions for both September and October.
"All the signs are pointing towards a big spring ahead, something we haven't seen for quite a while," he said.
For sheep producers, paddock selection over the coming months is going to be important to minimise scald and foot abscess.

Mr Lieschke said that the wet conditions are likely to exacerbate feet issues in livestock, especially lambing ewes.
"Also try and avoid putting stock through muddy gateways and yards as this increases the risk of infection," he added.
"Contact your local vet for advice on how to treat affected sheep."
