State and Federal governments are easy targets.
Remember the pink batts affair?
Not the private sector's dodgy insulation installers or the security company that failed dismally during a crisis pandemic.
But let's not forget the average Jo who ignores the advice, breaks the rules or fails to inform themselves about the virus.
Let's not forget the people who spread conspiracies that undermine social confidence.
Sheeting off the blame to Government is an easy deflection from the fact that many people are not taking the pandemic seriously.
In Melbourne Hotels, some security guards made a decision to sleep or play on their phones instead of standing guard, to make sure those equally irresponsible people in isolation didn't sneak out for a smoke or solicit for sex.
If we are against the Government winding back our freedoms then we need to take more responsibility for our behaviour.
If we want freedom and privacy we can't keep expecting the government to legislate even more measures to protect us from our own stupidity.
Thanks to those wearing masks as a fashion accessory, signing in when requested, staying put in quarantine or caring for neighbours.
Thanks also to the generous people who entertain and educate us online and to those frontline workers caring for the sick and vulnerable.
If we want our freedoms, follow their example.
We can't have it both ways.
