The former McDermott Centre and Town Hall in Auburn Street is being transformed into a 400-seat performance venue costing nearly $19 million.
The project was delayed by wet weather, fire bans, and social distancing, so council expects to finish the theatre by September 2021 - three months behind schedule.
But builders from Zauner Construction are powering ahead. The groundwork and sub-structure phase was completed by Thursday, August 20, the date set in the July status report submitted to council this month.
Constructors installed screw piles, foundation works, and the basement slab in July, and have spent August installing basement level panels, floor sections, and service ducts.
"Luckily there wasn't a huge delay after the significant rain over August 8 and 9," the council spokesperson said. "They are well into the basement section now, standing up a lot of the walls and getting that in place."
Upper level panels will be installed once the basement and ground floor concrete works are complete. Steel columns will be installed in the auditorium.
Essential Energy has approved the HV power supply upgrade. The new pad mount substation will be installed later this year.
