Officer in charge of Goulburn Police Station Inspector Matthew Hinton said that at 1:30pm on August 22 a resident reported a Highland cow had been shot on a property at Boxers Creek. The Inspector said the cow had not been found for a week and was located on the Saturday, so the incident could have taken place anytime in the previous week.
He said police had no reports of illegal hunting prior to this and the matter was being investigated by The Hume Rural Crime Investigators.
"Police appeal to anyone that has knowledge of illegal hunting to report it at the time so police can patrol and intercept those involved," Inspector Hinton said.
"There are severe penalties for those found to be illegal hunting on private property without consent and licensed firearms holders may have their firearms confiscated.
"Police are appealing for anyone with information in relation to this incident to contact Rural Crime Investigators at Goulburn Police Station."
Call Goulburn Police Station on 4824 0799 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 if you have any information.
