Five crews were dispatched to the Robinson Road outbreak, off Marianvale Road, some 20km southeast of Goulburn, at about 5.30pm.
Southern Tablelands RFS operational officer Michael Gapps said a landowner was undertaking a private burn when it escaped into bushland on his property.
Crews from Bungonia, Goulburn and Towrang attended. The outbreak, currently standing at 2ha, is listed as being controlled though rain fell in the area overnight.
Mr Gapps said personnel were back on scene on Sunday morning but were unable to gain access due to wet tracks.
"They're happy it's contained and will check again this afternoon to make sure everything is as it should be," he said.
The outbreak is mainly burnt in windrows but Mr Gapps said nearby residents were concerned it should be doused ahead of an expected windy day on Wednesday.
