Goulburn Bonsai Club's signature tree Shimpaku Juniper will feature in the exhibition during the Lilac City Festival over the weekend.
Club president Ian Hutchins said that it was designed by American expert Jim Barrett, whose trees featured in the popular movie 'Karate Kid'.
"He was here 20 years ago and styled our club tree. We call it the 'Lazarus'. The name comes from a time when the tree looked very brown and we were worried it may die. Luckily, tender care revived it back to health. Like Lazarus, it 'rose from the dead'," he said.
The exhibition will have flowering and traditional trees with a mix of Australian natives. It includes traditional pines, Chinese elms, Olive trees, English elms, native bonsais, and Chinese lilac. Trees varying in sizes from 20cm to 80cm will also be displayed.
"The exhibition will show how many excellent bonsai trees exist within our community," Mr Hutchins said.
A retired doctor, he has been a member of the club for a decade and president for several years.
"I have always had an interest in horticulture but did not have sufficient time to pursue it as I was a GP. Since retiring around five years ago, I have been an active member," he said.
Goulburn Bonsai Society has 15 members in the club and has held annual exhibitions for the past 20 years, usually on the Lilac City Festival weekend. They hold monthly meetings and work on trees.
The exhibition will be held on Saturday, October 3 and Sunday, October 4 from 10am - 4:30 pm in the Marian building on Clinton Street. The entry fee is $4.
