On Tuesday their HSC exams began.
And while there has been plenty of hard work leading up to this week, Goulburn High School principal Yogesh Mani said the students seemed "excited" and "looked forward" to the first written exams on Tuesday morning.
With the first one out of the way, Mr Mani spoke to some of the students, who said they were "very happy" with the exam and felt they had been well prepared.
"That's quite positive. We didn't have any issues during the exam, the students were very calm."
As with everything this year, HSC has been a little different with students having to undergo screening questions before entering their exams as part of Covid-19 measures.
Mr Mani said the students were not disrupted by this and remained calm going into the exam room.
In what has been a challenging year for all schools, Mr Mani said both staff and students had taken it in their stride and ensured Year 12 was well prepared for the HSC.
"They took the challenge of this year as an opportunity to think outside the box," he said.
"Life is full of disruptions and for us to navigate our way through and find the best solutions for us, was great. They worked very well with their subject teachers."
Mr Mani said students continued their hard work even when they were unable to be at school and accessed the resources made available to them.
"We've got high quality teachers who are always looking at ways to support the students to achieve the best possible outcome.
"Goulburn High always has high expectations on learning and the students are always striving for excellence."
According to the Education Standards Authority, in the capital region, which includes Goulburn, there are 1297 students enrolled in at least one HSC subject.
The HSC kicked off yesterday in NSW with English paper one and a number of other languages, and continues today with English paper two and music.
A variety of exams from ancient history to economics will be held on Thursday and Friday.
Written exams for the HSC will finish on November 11 and results will be released on December 18.
