Our planned bus trip to the Walcott Garden and Arbouretum in Canberra in April was cancelled and members have not been able to meet since March.
With restrictions easing, the committee were keen for members to have an outing and organised a "garden ramble" last week.
Margaret Wilkes, Margaret Cameron, Robyn Rawlinson and I offered our gardens for the ramble.
We all live on rural properties, so the gardens were all fairly large.
Each garden was different. From spacious lawn, bushland and to the more structured with trimmed hedging, they were all flourishing after the rain this year and all had expansive views of the surrounding country.
The cooler, damp weather did not deter members who were treated to greenhouses, enclosed vegetable gardens, perfumed roses, climbing hardenbergia, peony roses, a variety of interesting succulents, rockeries, iris, poppies and wisteria to name a few.
The plants table at Robyn's was popular, with donations of plants, cuttings and bulbs from the committee. Members were able to collect cuttings at the gardens as well.
New members Christine Ramsay, Eileen Woodward and Kerry Breeze, who had been waiting several months to join, were welcomed with their club badge and copy of the constitution.
Members can now look forward to our Christmas lunch to be held at Goulburn Workers Club on Tuesday, December 1. More information: Iris, 0417651433.
