Rose Martin, Executive Director for Southern Tablelands Arts, said that they wanted to screen a film that had an Indigenous perspective to it.
"Bran Nue Dae also hits the mark as after facing a tough time due to pandemic, we want to move ahead, restart and reset and this is a joyous film to round out this year," she said.
"We wanted to screen a film that will uplift people after a tough year and make them feel positive about the summer ahead and Bran Nue Day ticked off all the boxes for us."
The film is directed by Rachel Perkins and written by Perkins and Reg Cribb and starrs Rocky McKenzie, Jessica Mauboy, Ernie Dingo with Missy Higgins and Geoffrey Rush.
A feature film adaptation of the 1990 stage musical Bran Nue Dae by Jimmy Chi, the film tells the story of the coming of age of an Aboriginal Australian teenager on a road trip in the late 1960s.
Lilac City Cinema reopened in July after being closed for months due to coronavirus restrictions.
For the screening of the film on Sunday, November 29, 65 seats are available and appropriate social distancing measures are in place. Small family groups may be allowed to sit together while maintaining safe distancing with others in the cinema.
Cinema-goers will have to write down their names and contact information for contact tracing. Hand sanitisers will be in place across the premises to maintain hygiene practices.
