Paul John Browning, 47, of McGuire Drive, was convicted of driving with an illicit drug present when he appeared before Goulburn Local Court on December 2.

Magistrate Geraldine Beattie said it was alleged that on September 1, 2020 Browning drove with methamphetamine, known as 'meth', in his system.

Browning, who represented himself, told the court that he "normally [did meth] on weekends with friends" but he hadn't used the drug since the incident. Browning said he didn't drink or use other drugs.

The magistrate said the oral fluid test used by police revealed whether drugs were still in a person's system. She said "staying off [drugs] was the only answer, or not driving" and it was "clear what the better choice was".

"There is a strong need to stop people from committing this offence."

Magistrate Beattie took Browning's early guilty plea into account. He was convicted, fined $450 and disqualified from driving for three months.
