President Iris told some funny Christmas jokes..! Member Roz Phillipson recited a poem written by Pam Ayers "Ode to Covid" which summed up 2020 for some of us. We had a Christmas quiz which had us all thinking.
Long-time club member Sue Kidd was awarded a life membership and presented with a Life Membership badge. Sue has been a member since 1993. The Christmas raffle saw some lucky members take home a Christmas hamper or beautiful plant from Gehl's Garden Centre.
To finish up, each table had to decorate a member as a Christmas tree. There was lots of laughing as tinsel was wrapped around and baubles hung from fingers. GWC staff chose Dell Mills as the best decorated tree. After all Christmas is the silly season.
Our next meeting will be our friendship meeting on February 23, 2021. Details: Iris Sturgiss 0417 651 433.

Call for 'commercial compromise'
Re 'Short-sighted': Aged care developer takes swipe as he withdraws project published online December 2
The council appears to have lost an appetite for commercial compromise. So often businesses are treated as if they have a pot of gold, and local authorities frequently want as much of that as possible as quickly as possible.
The payment could be reduced given the precedent already set for the brewery and the payment could be extended over more than two years. This type of publicity is bad for council and it risks reputational damage that will deter other entrepreneurs from developing here.

More train services wanted
Re Moss Vale and Goulburn train station upgrade on track Goulburn Post online on November 26
Great news regarding proposed upgrade of Goulburn railway station, now all we need are some trains to use it. How much longer do we have to wait to get decent and more frequent rail services to Campbelltown/Sydney?
Our previous MP seemed to showed very little interest in improving rail services, perhaps our new MP can show a bit more enthusiasm to get improved services, particularly an extra train mid morning (say 10:30am) to either Campbelltown or Central, and also a return train from Central around 5pm.
An extra morning service on weekends would be also be welcome, with an afternoon return from Central. Time for our local member to step up and show she is willing to fight for her community.

A covid safety message
It is wonderful that we appear to have few, if any, COVID-19 cases reported in Australia each day, except for those in hotel quarantine. It is also good news that life is getting back to a relative normal in most states, including the opening of internal borders.
Australia has done very well to this point but we must not forget that the virus is still out there and the process is clearly not air tight. The most recent cluster in South Australia was caused by the virus getting into the community from a quarantine hotel, the same applied with the second wave in Victoria and most recently we had a worker in a NSW hotel also diagnosed with the virus. We must continue to do things such as physical distancing, washing our hands regularly and staying home when we are sick. Wearing a mask in enclosed or crowded public areas is also important.
