Four authors' submissions, including the work of Australian stage and screen actor Max Cullen, were published on the festival website.
Cullen has submitted a dark-colonial piece titled Quake.
Other submissions include An Unexpected Occurrence at the Crossing Over the Creek by Gavin Douglas, A New Lease on Life by Uta Purcell, and The Gunning of my Childhood (1958-59) by Dan Brigden.
The festival began accepting submissions to the short-story competition earlier this year and will continue until February 8, 2021.

The plot of the FlashWrite Project stories must encapsulate local life experiences. Entries should be no more than 1500 words.
Gunning Arts Festival chair Michelle Storey said, "stories related to the 2021 festival theme, rejuvenation, are especially welcome."
In 2021, a selection would be performed and published in a booklet as part of the festival.
The project is sponsored by BJCE Australia's Biala and Gullen Range Wind Farms and supported by the Upper Lachlan Cultural Funding Program with the Upper Lachlan Shire Council.
"Everyone has a story to tell," Derek Powell, deputy general manager at BJCE Australia, said.
"BJCE Australia is happy to do our little bit to help people tell theirs. Hats off to the contributors and the hard working, innovative folk behind the Gunning Arts Festival for this fantastic idea."
