A recent audit undertaken by Goulburn Mulwaree Council has revealed positive developments after facing a challenging year due to bushfires, drought, and COVID-19.
A Goulburn Mulwaree Council spokesperson said that December CBD Vacancy Audit highlighted a small decrease in vacancies from 11.9 per cent in September this year to 11.4 per cent in December.
"After a difficult year for retail and all business, this is a strong result. Since the audit was completed, we have also seen three new businesses open their doors in Auburn Street (Blonde by Mara, That Streetwear Store and Montoria Boutique) and we wish them success with their ventures," the spokesperson added.
"The Lederer Group are also undertaking a major redevelopment of the Goulburn Marketplace at the southern end of our CBD. All in all, it has been a positive end to the year for our local retail economy, and we hope to see continuing strength moving forward into 2021."
As per a report tabled in the December council meeting, total CBD vacancies taking into account the two malls, Goulburn Square and Goulburn Marketplace, remain steady at 9.5 per cent.
The report further states that the Lederer Group, who own Goulburn Marketplace are currently undertaking a large redevelopment and expansion, utilising local construction company ARW Multigroup.
The completed project will see a number of new specialty shops available for lease along with additional food offerings.
