The RFS has advised that this afternoon's fire on Guineacor Road near Taralga started after a burn-off on a property "got away."
It occurred near a house but the property was not under any immediate threat. The outbreak has been contained.
Tuesday 5.30pm
Rural Fire Service crews have quickly contained a fire that broke out about 5km north of Taralga on Tuesday afternoon.
The outbreak, on Guineacor Road South, was reported at 4pm.
Southern Tablelands zone district assistant Krystaal Hinds said Taralga and Laggan crews, comprising about 11 personnel, were attending the scene.
The fire broke out in open grassland and was contained to two to three hectares by about 5.15pm.
Ms Hinds said the outbreak was somewhat unusual given the amount of recent rain.
The cause is not yet known.
