Zane Jackson and Elsie Apps got the proceedings underway, starting off-limit, and they were followed three minutes later by a strong bunch of C Grade riders including Nadine Moroney, Shannon Apps, Mark Stutchbury, Peter Thorne and Southern Highlands rider, Zac Hulm.
The B Grade bunches were off 4:30 and 6:20 while the scratch bunch comprising of Jason McLaughlin, Robbie Dorsett, Adam Kiss and Andy Cartwright needed to make up eight minutes on the limit group.
Club handicapper, Ian Wardale, must have been pouring over the stats during the festive season as he was spot on with the marks provided to the riders.
Each of the groups largely stayed together throughout the race and it was only within the final five kilometres that the scratch riders caught the front runners.
The A Grade group opened up the afterburners over the final two rolling climbs. Zane Jackson and Shannon Apps did not throw in the towel and managed to hang on with the faster riders until the final climb before the sprint to the finish line.
Robbie Dorsett, Adam Kiss and Jason McLaughlin opened up a narrow gap on Andy Cartwright in the final sprint and it took the eagle eye of commissaire Phil Bush to award the race to Robbie Dorsett by the narrowest of margins over Jason McLaughlin and Adam Kiss.
Robbie Dorsett also took out the fastest time averaging 43kph.
Next Wednesday, January 13, racing is at Wakefield Park for a Fixed Wheel Crit for the track riders and Criteriums for the road riders.
Sign on is from 5.45pm with the Fixed Wheel Crit at 6.15pm followed by the road bike criteriums. New riders are welcome.
