Lorna May Whitmore, 26, from the Central Coast, appeared before Goulburn Local Court on January 13. Whitmore faced a charge of robbery armed with an offensive weapon in relation to an incident at a Yass service station on October 31, 2020.

Solicitor Rod Boyd urged the court to accept his client's application for bail. He said Whitmore had allegedly stolen $200 and a packet of cigarettes from the service station.

"This is by far the most serious matter she has ever been charged with," Mr Boyd said.

In relation to the magistrate's concern that Whitmore would not attend court, the solicitor argued: "The conditions I'm proposing would mitigate that bail concern".

"If she doesn't report [the police] will find her very quickly."

Mr Boyd said his client had "issues in relation to drugs and alcohol" and bail would allow her to attend a rehabilitation clinic for treatment.

"Since being in custody she has not received medication or psychological treatment."

Magistrate Michael O'Brien denied Whitmore's bail application due to an "unacceptable risk".

He said Whitmore had shown a "defiance or lack of regard for authority" and had a "history of disobedience".

"It's [previous] failures to attend court and warrants put out for her arrest which concern me."

The magistrate argued that while a relatively small amount of money was allegedly stolen, "if you brandish a knife threatening someone then the amount of money is inconsequential".

Whitmore is yet to enter a plea.
