Goulburn Multicultural Centre (GMC) manager Heni Hardi said the event, which was scheduled for the middle of February, had to be scrapped due to the uncertainty over the COVID-19 situation.
"We have had to cancel the festival because it involves a lot of communities coming together," Ms Hardi said.
"Everyone looking forward to the event has been very understanding and while they expressed regret that the festival was not going ahead, they fully appreciated and understood the reasoning behind it."
Some of the community groups in town include those from India, Bangladesh and Africa and Ms Hardi said they could still celebrate with their families.
"They can still sing, dance, play music, wear their costumes and cook their food," she said.
In better news, GMC's Harmony Day event at Belmore Park could still go ahead on Sunday, March 21.
Details for the event are still being worked out, but Ms Hardi said it would be a great way to unite the town.
"It will be a smaller event than the big Multicultural Festival but it will be just as much fun and enjoyable for all the family," she said.
"There will be free performances, food and everyone is invited."
