The Goulburn Grief and Bereavement Support Group was founded through the Goulburn and District Suicide Prevention Network and is supported by RJ Sidney Craig Funeral Directors.
Gail Davies and Hayley Snape came up the the idea for the community group after the success of a similar program in Crookwell.
Ms Davies said she wanted to give back to the community and help those who struggled with loss.
"People can come to a place where they are understood and receive support they mightn't get from family and friends."
Ms Snape said the aim of the group was to create a "safe place where you can meet people going through a similar experience".
Her dedication to helping people stemmed from witnessing "the pain in the community when someone died".
"Grief can be so lonely," she said.
Ms Snape is currently studying through the Australian Centre for Grief and Bereavement and plans on becoming a a grief counselor.
John Crooks, owner of R J Sidney Craig Funeral Directors, said he had seen the impact of grief first hand and wanted to make sure people had support after the funeral.
The support group will meet on the second Tuesday of each month starting February 9. The meetings will be held from 6pm at Workspace Goulburn, 65 Clinton Street Goulburn.
