Carol James, organiser of the event, said that the race saw enthusiastic participation by the youths and adults alike.
"The initial plan was to hold the race from the Fitzroy bridge to Roberts Park. However, the rest of the river was dry so we ended up holding the race at Roberts Park instead where kayakers went up the river and came back," she said.
"A total of 15 canoes participated in the races. The weather was beautiful and there were people enjoying a picnic along the banks of the river.
"It gives people a good chance to come together and enjoy. We are hoping to organise another such race soon."
Barbeque and games were organised on the day of the event as well. SES personnel were also present for the event.
Earlier on the day, Australia Day celebrations were held at Seiffert Oval which started with a barbeque hosted by Goulburn Rotary.
There were food stalls and markets set up for the visitors and veteran and vintage cars rolled through the gates. There were train rides for the kids and later, free entry at the nearby Aquatic Centre.
Meanwhile, Goulburn's hockey international Glenn Turner was this year's Australia Day ambassador. The 88-year-old Windellama SES deputy unit controller, Kevin Muffet, was the Australia Day citizen of the year.
Charlotte Hargan was named Youth Citizen of the Year and Mighty Playwrights was name as the community event of the year.
