Ms Merriman took on the role of first female chair of the NSW Farmers Yass branch in 2019 after long-standing chair Ed Story stepped down to focus on the role of president of Wool Producers Australia.
She passionate about young farmers having a voice and participating in developing policy and taking action to ensure profitable and sustainable agriculture.
Prior to taking the chair's position the local branch hardly met but since taking in the leadership the branch has become very active and is achieving great outcomes for its members and the wider farming community.
She has overcome any gender barriers to give a voice to the farming community and talk about policies to make agriculture sustainable and profitable.
Ms Merriman has been vocal about encouraging more women to be a part of the agricultural industry and feels that there is always room for more women to take on the leadership role in the industry and have a voice.
In 2020, she was also named in Hidden Treasures Honour Roll that recognises the outstanding efforts of women volunteers in NSW and promotes the valuable role of volunteering to the community.
It is an initiative of the Department of Primary Industries' Rural Women's Network.
