New things grew quickly for Mojo Tree Services

"I was working as an internal employee for a large tree company when the operations manager approached me to subcontract," begins Mitch from Mojo Tree Services.

"I went home and discussed the offer with my wife, and we decided to take a chance with the subcontract offer. We have grown and learnt over the few years but there hasn't been a dull moment working in the industry," he continued.

Looking further back, "I started the in the tree industry when I was 17 working out of a depot in Queanbeyan. I was shuffled between two sectors of that company, maintaining powerline vegetation clearances and commercial or private jobs where we had to trim or remove trees required by customers on their property or government land."

Mojo Tree Services now has four full-time employees with various skills and qualifications to get a variety of jobs done safely and efficiently.

"We have a qualified arborist, and all-around general workers. Each employee holds near the same or equivalent sub-qualifications of tree climbers, chainsaws operations, aerial rescues, EWP, chemical and so on.

"We offer nearly all aspects of tree work, tree and shrub hedging, tree pruning, complete tree removal, stump griding and wood chipping."

Showing the camaraderie that exists within their trade, Mitch also says "each small business tree service in our area should be considered [by clients] when it comes to their specific tree work needs. It will help the small business entities keep moving on through slow periods."

Obviously it's not slow all the time though. In fact, it can get incredibly busy and make us all glad that there is more than one tree service business out there.

"Currently we have had numerous calls come in from the recent windstorm we had come through our area, with medium to large hazardous failure-prone trees close to dwellings or sheds that have become a concern. We have also had a few jobs that have just required chipping where the customer has cleaned the trees off the driveways for access and the debris was just too much to handle for themselves."

When it comes to anything of a size that is beyond your experience, "suitably qualified tree companies can offer professional advice on trees to ensure a safe and aesthetically pleasing result. Poorly maintained trees can be a liability and pruning or removing large trees can be dangerous work."

So when it comes to choosing someone to deal with that problem for you, "They should be trained, certified and qualified in all aspects of tree maintenance and care and adhere to the recommended Australian standards, and refer to local council guidelines," before approaching any form of tree care or removal.

As you might imagine, like people who design and construct buildings, tree service workers can also spot their past jobs as they cruise around town. This also means that Mitch derives a lot of satisfaction in the job that he and the team does long after it's been successfully completed.

"I like when I drive down a road and can spot work we have done in the past. It is kind of a curse to all tree workers. I like knowing we went above and beyond on each job to satisfy the customer tree work needs."
