Even as Facebook continues to ban news in Australia on it's platform, members of the federal government have reacted to the decision taken by the social media giant.

Member for Hume, Angus Taylor MP called Facebook's actions "heavy-handed and disappointing".
"It's actions were far worse than just blocking news sites. It stopped Australians from accessing emergency services sites, mental health sites and other sources of vital information," he said.

"At the end of the day, the Australian Government is simply asking the major platforms, like Facebook and Google that have a very strong market position, to do the right thing by our local media outlets.
"Local outlets like the Goulbourn Post play an important role in the life of our community, and we want to ensure they are protected from giants like Facebook and Google."
Facebook had had even banned access to news pages across Australia last week in response to a proposed media bargaining code.
The social media platform even blocked several government pages including the weather bureau, police agencies, charities and community groups.
