The Upper Lachlan Shire Council is holding a Celebrate our Streets Gathering in Crookwell on March 13 to showcase temporary installations and artworks installed over the last few months.

General manager Colleen Worthy said the installations were regarded as temporary because they were living samples for residents and visitors to experience and provide feedback on.

"The state funding we received was earmarked specifically for temporary installations that visually and/or physically demonstrated street options and encouraged and invited public feedback," she said.

"If the feedback for an item is negative that installation will go, if on the other hand our community like the concept it will be pursued when funding is available."

Mrs Worthy highlighted the Parklets as examples of how the temporary installations could be used.

"At the moment some items are temporarily located in Crookwell and Laggan," she said.

"After a few months the plan is to rotate the temporary installations to other villages to see how they work across our shire. The state government made the funding available to help towns to bring their streets to life and to encourage people to engage with local communities in their streets.

"We genuinely want feedback on the various installations on display, and even suggestions for other ideas not yet on display."

In other villages other installations are being trialled, for example the line marking and a Parklet in Laggan, planter boxes, street trees and public art planned for Taralga, along with plans for street greening, street narrowing and traffic calming measures to follow.

The Celebrate our Streets Gathering will feature activities alongside each of the installations temporarily installed in Crookwell.

Starting at Pat Cullen Reserve from 11am to midday, there will be a free barbecue, a bouncy castle, balloons, a visit from Hefner the Alpaca and some demonstration games of table tennis, including Wendy Tuckerman MP versus Mayor John Stafford.

The focus will then move to Goulburn Street from midday to 2pm where there will be buskers located near the temporary planter boxes at Paul's Café, the temporary Parklet in front of Arcadia and near the mural at the visitor's centre.

Face painting will be stationed at the amenities block and Radio 2GN will be doing a live outside broadcast from in front of the IGA Supermarket.

Mrs Worthy said the two main purposes of the event were for people to see and comment on the installations, and to encourage people to get back out into their communities while observing all COVID safety practices.

"This has been a truly innovative way to consult with the community to allow what happens in the future to reflect the community's feedback," she said.

"This is an event for a couple of hours but the Taralga Show is also on the whole weekend. So we encourage residents and visitors to pop in to Crookwell to see the temporary installations either before or after they head across to Taralga for the Show.

"The mayor and I will certainly be attending both events as they are great ways to enjoy our local communities. See you there."
