The pandemic severely affected almost all the sectors, including the creative industry last year. However, artists stepped up during that period of isolation to help us keep going and ensuring that people continue to be a part of these unique experiences.
Southern Tablelands Arts (STA) started an initiative to keep the artists and creative groups connected to people by sharing their stories as part of 'Stories From The Studio' program in which an artist and their work was featured every week.
Rose Martin, executive director of STA, said that they have now started #thankanartist campaign to acknowledge the work done by these artists that helped to make 2020 more bearable.
"They are unsung heroes and we hope everyone of us will join STA to sing their praises. This month #thankanartist every day for their hard work and works of art that grace your home and garden, books they write, films they make, house concerts and music they perform," she said.
"Thank them by sharing their events on social media, following them and liking their posts, turning up at gigs and visiting galleries. Tag @southerntablandsarts when you post so we can share your gratitude with the world."
Meanwhile, STA have allocated $36,000 in funds through round one of the STA Top Spots and Micro Grants. Round two will see even more funding distributed into the creative sector across the region.
The Top Spots Micro Grants will help support small venues, community groups and not-for-profits to restart meaningful arts events for the community to share.
Micro Grants will address the impacts of Covid19 on creative practitioners and community groups. Micro Grants are designed to support makers to keep creating.
