But the Community Access Program is helping these students feel more comfortable within their local community.
It started a few years ago and Head Teacher for Support Jacob Sheehan said it had been a great initiative.

"It's about students gaining the skills to be able to successfully contribute to their local community," he said.
"What that means is accessing local businesses and practicing their literacy and numeracy skills."
As part of the program, students visit businesses such as grocery stores with a budget and are in charge of payment and making sure they receive the correct change.
Mr Sheehan said they would also visit the train station and look at timetables, how to get on to a train and how to catch public transport.
The library, reception areas of different facilities such as a doctor's surgery and services like Medicare are other places students will become familiar with as part of the program.
All students in the Support Unit from Years 7-12 will take part and Mr Sheehan said they all looked forward to participating in the program.
"We've found that lots of kids, before they even came to school, they wouldn't even go down the street. And now that they're accessing their local community, they'll go down with their parents as well," he said.
"It's broadening their opportunities and widening their experiences."
Goulburn High student Amy has been involved with the program for the past two years and said she found it helpful and was looking forward to participating in it again this year.
Amy said she had enjoyed helping and learning about the community as well as spending the time with her classmates.
Some of the places she has become more familiar with include the mall, movies and smaller businesses such as local op shops.
