Kerstin Schweth, from Native Wildlife Rescue, has warned that flooded burrows will be forcing wombats out into unfamiliar territory.
"Please watch out for wombats during this heavy rain pour, sadly with more rain to come," she said.
"Rain is flooding their burrows, leaving mums with following joeys (quite often very small) looking for safe and dry areas."
She said not to be surprised or concerned if a wombat or two appear under sheds, inside open covered areas, or on dry verandahs.
"This will be only temporary, a dry place for them to sleep until they can return to their burrows once the water levels have subsided," said Ms Schweth.
She also urged drivers to slow down and be on the lookout for little creatures on the roads.
"With vision on the roads extremely poor in heavy rain, please keep safe and slow down, and look out for wombats rushing across roads to escape the downpours," said Ms Schweth.
