They occur on the third Sunday of every month from February to November, with the Club Championship final to be held on the first Sunday in December.
The event on March 21 was the second competitive shoot for this year. This was also the last club competition shoot before eight members of our club head to the National Championships held in Shepparton, Victoria over the Easter long weekend.
Sunday was cool and the sky was overcast, with periods of rain. The wind was tricky, blowing in all directions with gusts up to 46kph.
Six shooters competed on Sunday, and their scores were:
- Ivan Wilson - shooting bench rest, scoring 199 with 14 centrals
- Kylie Watts - shooting bench rest, scoring 198 with 16 centrals
- Richard Brodie - shooting bench rest, scoring 198 with 12 centrals
- Rob Eager - shooting bench rest, scoring 197 with 12 centrals
- Chris Gaul - shooting bench rest, scoring 196 with nine centrals
- David Wright - shooting prone, scoring 192 with five centrals
- Richard Brodie - shooting prone, scoring 186 with six centrals
This was some excellent shooting, and excellent scores, given the weather conditions. The best score that can be shot is 200 with 20 centrals.
2020 was a year where changes needed to be made, but the club implemented a COVID plan which kept all members safe. Now in 2021, as COVID restrictions have now been eased even further, we are now able to have visitors to the range and we can have more people in our clubhouse.
The club said anybody interested in trying the sport out should feel free to come along and have a shoot or come and see what smallbore rifle shooting is all about.
The Goulburn Workers Smallbore Rifle Club meets at the GWSBRC Range at the top end of Sports Way, off Finlay Road, as part of the Goulburn Workers Club Arena Sporting Complex.
The range is usually open on Sunday from about 9.30am for practice, training and club competition; beginners, shooters new to target competition and juniors 12 years and over (supervised by a licenced adult guardian) are welcome.
