Senior Constable Peter Gurr has been awarded for his commitment in briefing students at the Goulburn Police Academy on their industrial rights during Covid-19.

The policeman was recognised as Branch Official of the Year by the by the Police Association of New South Wales (PANSW). The award was presented at this week's PANSW Conference in Wollongong in front of more than 120 fellow serving officers.

Senior Constable Gurr said he was proud to receive the award and to have done his bit to ensure new probationary constables were made fully aware of the importance of joining their union.

The policeman, who has been part of the Goulburn academy since 2009, said he was proud "to answer questions about what [cadets] should expect in what is one of the toughest professions."

Peter has been elected to take a seat on the PANSW executive Board and will attend his first meeting in April. The meeting will focus on the delay in a decision on any change to pay and conditions for the NSW Police.
