Well don't worry, because it's changing back from 50km/h to 60km/h.

The speed limit on the whole of Hume Street, beginning from the Shell Petrol Station, was previously 60km/h.

However, the limit on the outbound lanes was decreased by 10km/h just before the Finlay Road intersection on Thursday afternoon, April 8 due to the pop-up cycle lane on the side of the road.

Goulburn Mulwaree Council general manager Warwick Bennett said council only found out the speed limit would be decreased late last year.

"A speed limit change on Hume Street, which is a state road administered by Transport for NSW, was not proposed when council first signed off on the pop-up cycle lane project last year," Mr Bennett said.

"When the funding was received in November, there were changes to the project, which included imposing a 50km/h speed limit."

With the cycle lane not being used as much as council had anticipated, the barriers will now be removed and the speed limit will revert back to 60km/h.

"The cycle lane is not being used adequately enough to warrant retaining it," Mr Bennett said.

"This was always a temporary project, but in light of these circumstances, we will be removing the cycle lane barriers, and the speed limit will be returned to 60km/h."

This will be great news for many as there were plenty of disgruntled residents when the speed limit changed.

Transport for NSW was contacted for information, but The Post was referred to council.
