That's why it's important to set aside a week each year to celebrate them, their achievements and the positive impact they have.
Youth Week begins on Friday, April 10 and Goulburn Mulwaree Council's youth services coordinator Luke Wallace explained the significance of the week.
"Youth Week celebrates young people and the positive things about them," Mr Wallace said.

"The theme this year is 'Together more than ever' which is very fitting given the current circumstances.
"It has been a struggle for the past couple of years now due to the bushfires and COVID-19.
"This will give the youth a chance to come together and look after their mates."
Mr Wallace said he also wanted the youth to know that "they're important and people do care about them because they make the town a great place".
To mark the official opening, Goulburn Mulwaree Council has organised a couple of activities.
The day will start off with a big party at PCYC Goulburn from 10am to 1pm followed by the Goulburn Great Race, for those aged between 12 and 25, from 1pm to 3.30pm.
The party will have inflatables, obstacle courses, axe throwing and a whole lot of other activities.
There will also be displays from the Royal Military College Duntroon and PCYC's sport trailer.
Free coffee and a sausage sizzle will be available as well as giveaways.
The Goulburn Great Race is a little like the show The Amazing Race where teams of two will make their way around Goulburn's CBD on foot.
Teams will have to complete both physical and mental challenges and also find objects and items to help out local businesses.
Along the way, they will also learn about local organisations like the police and Headspace.
The team that finishes on time with the most points will win.
Winners will receive two tablets, the runners up will win two $50 vouchers and the team in third will receive two movie vouchers.
The race begins at PCYC Goulburn and ends at the council chambers.
To register your team at PCYC on the day or email carol@caroljames.com.au.
Youth Week concludes on Friday, April 23 and will also see activities at both Goulburn High School and Mulwaree High School.
