The Rockmans store announced the decision after failure to negotiate a new leasing agreement, an employee of the store said.
"We have received a lot of support from the community over the years and are sad to close down under circumstances that are beyond our control," the employee further said.
The store has five employees and the company is working towards their redeployment. The last day of the operation of the store is May 26.
Similarly, Strandbags store located at Goulburn Square is closing down on May 22.
The store currently has five employees.
Meanwhile, Darrell Weekes, the president of the Goulburn Chamber of Commerce, has said that he is concerned about the closure of these shops and locals losing their jobs due to this.
"I'd like to know if there are other shops that will replace the closure of these stores," he said.
The issue of vacant stores on the main street has been a point of concern for a long time.
While walking down the main street, it's hard to miss the number of shops that have been lying vacant, some for a long time.
As per Goulburn Mulwaree Council's vacancy audit that was held in December 2020, there was a decrease in the vacancy rate from 11.9 per cent in September this year to 11.4 per cent in December.
As per a report tabled in the December council meeting, total CBD vacancies taking into account the two malls, Goulburn Square and Goulburn Marketplace, remained steady at 9.5 per cent.
