This is how the Goulburn Croquet Club came together to celebrate the birthday of one of their members Gerry Bassell on May 3.
The beaming birthday boy was surrounded by well-wishers who made sure his 90th birthday would be a memorable one.
President of the club, Bill Smith, called Mr Bassell an absolute gentleman and one of the club's best players.
"He has only been playing croquet for the past 15 months and in a short span of time, turned into one of our best players. He has developed into an accomplished player, who lives and breathes croquet," he said.
"He is always willing to pass on his outstanding knowledge of the game to our newest players."
One can expect smiles and laughter when the nonagenarian is around.
"He loves a joke and has a fantastic sense of humour.
"We all love him and think very highly of him."
The Goulburn Croquet Club is a social and non-competitive club. It has a mixed number of male and female players that enjoy the gentle exercise and using their brain in implementing the various strategies that are involved within the game.
In almost three years, Goulburn Croquet Club has substantially grown, and they now play an additional day to accommodate all their players.
They play at the Goulburn Railway Bowling Club (outside RAMFM Radio Studio) on Wednesday mornings and afternoons and on Thursday mornings.
