Goulburn CWA Evening Branch celebrated the South American country of Ecuador at its March meeting.
Ecuador, bordered by Peru, Columbia and the Pacific Ocean, includes the amazing Galapagos Islands as part of its territory. The vast Andes Mountains also run through Ecuador, whose capital is Quito.
The meeting was enjoyed by the group president Leanne Lourigan, family and friends from other group branches.
We were lucky to have one of our members Jean Meng to have travelled with her husband to Ecuador a few years ago. Larry Meng was able to deliver a wonderful overview of the country and their travels. They also shared photos and some authentic handicrafts from the region. An informal question time followed the Ecuadorian tasting plate served by the team at Best Western's Cascades.
The branch decided we would do something a little different this year.
On Saturday, April 24, several of our members had a visit to the Goulburn War Memorial. Like myself, many of the members had not visited for several years. We were welcomed by Kathy and Carol to the museum at 10:30am with an introductory talk and service of remembrance.

The modern building is designed to blend in to the local surrounds but hides a wealth of treasures inside. This included the 1914 world map which depicted Goulburn as one of its major towns, and photos of the training camp that sat in front of the Goulburn Base Hospital.
From the museum we visited the cottage which houses a door from Changi gaol in Singapore, many pieces of local veterans' memorabilia and uniforms. We then ascended the six flights of stairs to the top of the tower to overlook Goulburn. Overall, the visit was most enjoyable and educational.
As our monthly meeting was due on the Monday evening, we decided to bring it forward and do it over lunch at K&G's after our War Memorial visit. We were very lucky to have been accommodated in a separate area which allowed us to work through the meeting's business agenda prior to the sounds of our friendly chit chat.
