Service manager Sharon Grummer said the charity was running low on volunteers to deliver meals.

The Goulburn service currently has 60 volunteers signed up but needs closer to 95.

The organisation was five volunteers short on Monday, and faces similar shortages for the rest of the week.

Ms Grummer said most people only volunteered once a month, with some businesses around Goulburn signing the whole office up.

"We would like to get some new blood in," she said.

Shifts generally start at 11:15am and last for an hour. Hot meals, frozen meals, mini meals and soups are delivered to elderly residents throughout the region.

Meals on Wheels currently delivers to 56 clients in total throughout Goulburn.

Ms Grummer said the meals allowed "the elderly to maintain independence and live in their own home and not put strain on the health system".

She said it was a great way to give back to the community and "have a chat with the elderly".

Clients have to be over 65 years old or over 50 for Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Additionally, Meals on Wheels has partnered with Pine O Cleen and Woolworths to distribute $50,000 hygiene packs nationwide.

Each pack contains: Glen 20 wipes, multi-purpose spray, disinfectant and a reusable bag.
