The Rams got out to an early 19-0 lead, but after that, it mostly one way traffic for the home side at the Crookwell Memorial Oval on Saturday, June 5.
The Dogs led by a point for a lot of the second half before getting home 30-24 despite conceding a last second try.
Yass Rams coach Ian McFarlane was extremely disappointed with the result given their early dominance.
"We had them beaten in the first half and we just went back to playing silly football," McFarlane said.
"We needed to execute our structure better instead of getting trapped into their game plan.
"If we stuck to our game plan, we would have put 40-50 points on them."
McFarlane is pretty satisfied which where his team stands at the moment, but there's a lot of work to do if they want to achieve their goal of making it to the top three and the semifinals.
"We've won two and lost five so far, but four of the losses were by six points or less," he said.
"I'm satisfied, but I think we should have won this one today."
As for the Dogs, their coach Bruce Nixon was very happy after their slow start.
"A lot of the younger blokes and the new players played a full game, so that was good," Nixon said.
"Starting slow is a mental thing I think.
"Our intention is to go out and do things, but when we get out there, we don't communicate.
"They're a young side so they'll get better, but they still won the game."
Like McFarlane, Nixon is pleased with how their side is performing.
"I'm happy we're still improving," he said.
"For us, it's not about the winning, but about getting better."
The Rams have a bye next week while the Dogs play the Jindabyne Bushpigs away from home.
